what time is it?

the time is now.

Hello, my name is Stacy Ying. I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My passion for exploring and understanding human behavior led me to design, where I found the beautiful connection between art and human behavior. I am eager to expand my skills and knowledge in this field and look forward to polishing my abilities to create intuitive and user-friendly designs.

Dragon City Restaurant

Redesigning a restaurant experience.

practice. practice. practice.

Practice is the process of discovering the world and understanding myself. Below are various activities and works I did to hone my skills and reinforce design concepts. Now is always the best time to practice.

Making a title slide deck for a lamp product. A round shape to mask the image for emphasis of Sol's design. (Lamp image credit: freepik)
This is the script draft for the promotional video that introduces Sol. I made lots of notes and drawings and used Post-its for the storyboard. I learned that the video should have consistent drawings and various storytelling methods.

Reverse engineering existing apps and identifying ways to improve them.

It's okay to be inspired by other works and borrow elements. Tweak and manipulate so it works for your design.
Redesigning posters. I asked myself, "What is the hierarchy of information I want people to see? The title, location, and time." "How can I emphasize the theme of the poster? Since the poster is for an outdoor movie night, I used the camera lights, movie ticket, and film strip."
Brainstorming and post-it exercises. I did many exercises using Post-its to practice communicating an idea effectively using a simple picture. The exercises taught me to glean important information and think about the main elements that best represent the information.A good way to balance effectiveness and efficiency was to focus on the subject's body language and facial expression. I had fun coming up ways to communicate using art.
